FAQs
Answers for Dads on Duty volunteers
How many times can I volunteer in a school year?
Please limit your volunteer registration to one day in the Fall, and one day in the Spring. If the school requests Dads on Duty assistance for school events on other days, those days will be added to the schedule and you are free to volunteer outside of this limitation.
Is there a cost for volunteering?
This is a self-funding program which costs the school nothing. A $20 donation is appreciated to cover the cost of DOD shirts, lanyards, stickers, and the cost of maintaining a branded website, Sign-Up Genius (volunteer scheduling) and branded email service.
How should I dress for my day of service?
Dress comfortably for inside service, especially plan for comfortable walking shoes, and plan for outside weather. Wear your Dads on Duty shirt. See the Training Deck for other school rules and requirements.
Are there other dress requirements or limitations?
- Please do not wear hats, hoods or sunglasses in the building and refrain from wearing logo sportswear (unless it’s permitted for a special school event).
- Shoes are to be always worn. Flip-flops, high heels, and shoes with wheels are not appropriate and are not allowed at school.
- No clothing with offensive language, pictures, or alcohol or drug advertisements will be permitted.
- Please don’t chew gum in the school.
Can I bring someone to serve with me?
No. Participation is limited to the four individuals on the sign-up sheet for that day.
How can I buy lunch in the cafeteria?
The preferred way is to visit the adult food bar while your child goes through his or her normal lunch line routine. Please eat with your child at the designated Visitor Tables.
Can I use my electronic devices while volunteering?
Dads on Duty are prohibited from using mobile phones during morning arrival and dismissal. Please limit the use of your electronic device to personal time scheduled in the daily planner and remain out of sight during usage.
Where can I use a restroom?
Please use restrooms designated for adult access ONLY.
